Preparing for Christmas

By Mary Ann Hopkins

Children write a letter and make a special gift for their Sponsor.

Have you started playing Christmas music? Don’t worry if you have because Christmas is almost here and we can hear the bells jingling too. Even our students have gotten into the Christmas spirit and started decorating their annual Christmas cards. Thank you to everyone who has committed to sponsoring a child through the Child Sponsorship program. Your investment in these children empowers them to accomplish their educational goals and breaks the cycle of generational poverty.

Before this year comes to an end, we wanted to take time to celebrate and reflect on what has happened in 2021. Despite navigating another year of a global pandemic, we have launched additional programs, such as tutoring for English language learners, swim lessons, and tutoring for Spanish and Math. Our students are thriving as a result and we could not be prouder! We did continue our food distribution program and have identified fifty families with zero or sporadic employment due to the decline of employment opportunities across Nicaragua. This has negatively impacted their children because at least twelve children receive only one meal a day and that meal is provided through our program. Therefore, we have increased our outreach to make our resources available to the community of Santa Ana. As we grow in our mission to develop and empower families in Nicaragua, we remain committed to building educated and productive communities.

In a matter of days, the school year will come to an end, and children across the country will advance to the next grade level. We are so excited to attend every graduation ceremony and celebrate each student’s achievements alongside their families. Please know, this wouldn’t be possible without your ongoing support! Both families and students are proud and blessed to have you be a part of their educational journey. Thank you for your commitment to empowering children in Nicaragua and in doing so breaking the cycle of generational poverty through education.
